Jamie Hawk's artistic passion partnered with science during undergrad when she realized that geospatial analysis results could be rendered visually appealing with solid design choices. Jamie has since worked for National Geographic Magazine, National Park Service, and Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District building a career in geographic information systems (GIS), cartography, web mapping, and enterprise system administration.

Jamie received a Master’s of Arts degree in 2015 from San Francisco State University’s Department of Geography & Environment. Her academics focused on vegetation science, biogeography, ecology, natural resource management and, of course, GIS. Her thesis Classification, vegetation-environment relationships, and distribution of plant communities on Southeast Farallon Island, California provides an in-depth analysis of native and invasive plant communities on the rocky island located 30 miles west of San Francisco.
